Can a crate of good things help change a homeless person’s life for the better? I believe that it can, and in my passion project I am going to address this idea and blog about it. My idea is to provide a survival crate like present to a homeless person on the street and blog about my process through this amazing journey. I laid out a set of plans to accomplish this goal of mine; on the first week of my project I was deciding on what to do for my passion project and I settled on giving food to a random homeless person. My plan for the second week was to give food to a homeless person and start on my blog entry. On week three I was supposed to give food to another homeless person and finish with my blog entries on checkpoint three and start checkpoint four. And on week four I planned to give food for the last time to a different homeless person and finish checkpoint four along with starting checkpoint five. On week five I planned to finish checkpoint 5 and start on checkpoint 6. And on my last week, week 6 I planned on finishing up all my final products. This project can help better my community because it can help a homeless person live another week or two so this means that I could be saving someone’s life by giving something to eat.

Starting off with week two I lacked behind and didn’t get anything done towards my goal for that week instead I changed my plans for the whole project. Reason being, when I went over the project with my mom we came to the conclusion that instead of giving different homeless people food, we should choose one homeless person and give them a crate of full of things that can help them better their life such as: toothpaste, toothbrushes, socks, deodorant, body wipes, band-aids, chap-stick, sunscreen, tissues, and last but not least snacks/food and water.
This website is the site that I used as a guide in order to get a homeless person the things they desired/need. This website was written by a former homeless person and that why I could trust this source. They also explain what the purpose of each item is to a homeless person. Further more, as I was leaving the store, there was a homeless man sitting outside of Walmart asking for food so I stopped to give him some of the snacks I just bought. When I went to give him some I went to hand him some peanut butter crackers along with a granola bar, but when I went to hand it to him he said “does the have peanuts in it, because i’m allergic to peanuts and anything dairy” I replied “yes sir it does” and then I offered him some applesauce and oranges in which he said that he is allergic to citrus and that he couldn’t eat those. However when I asked if he would like some socks and some baby wipes he replied yes please I would love that i’m not allergic to those, and so I gave him some things. But the lesson I learned here was that, you have to be careful what you give people because they can be allergic to them and it can hurt them more than they already are. So being close to the end of week three I had to make up as much time as I could so, I planned to give it to someone on Friday of week three.
Thank you to this individual I am able to provide you with a picture of what some items in my care package were. Even though we didn’t have the exact same items we had enough of the same items that it provides you with the idea of the stuff I bought for them. Go check out Anatomy’s blog about his prepackage for the homeless

Starting on week four I was little bit behind because of my idea change that I had. However, this idea change actually helped me with time because it allowed me more time on checkpoint four. The reason I said I was behind is because I haven’t started on checkpoint five and today is Thursday of week four. Update on today which is Thursday still, I went and examined checkpoint four and it wasn’t much to do so I did and now I am going to start on checkpoint five. So now I have caught up to my plan for week four because I have started on checkpoint five.
Final Post
So coming into the end of week three I decided to change the date I was going to give a homeless person food. I changed it to Sunday which was Easter, the reason for this was that I wanted to make someone else Easter as good as mine and I feel that everyone deserves a good Easter. So after I spent the day with my family me and my mom went looking for a person to give all the stuff to. We found a man standing under the intersection of i45 and beltway 8, his name was lee. He was a very nice gentleman and he was very thankful that we wanted to give him all this stuff. Me and my mom saw that he didn’t have very much stuff to begin with so when I gave him all this stuff I felt a little happiness on the inside knowing that I made his day and future days a little bit more enjoyable. In my opinion, the thing that was most important to him was the wipes and brand new socks, but I will never know for sure if that is true. I did not get a picture with him because i feel that that is a little down putting like for example “hey here is some stuff now smile for a picture,” I just feel like that he would think im just doing it for publicity which would not be right. I believe that when you do something for someone else you shouldn’t do it for publicity, you should do it with your heart and your will to help someone else. Moving on, I learned the true meaning of “giving back, what is given,” and I learn the value at which it comes to live life day to day. For example, all the items we got for the homeless person, they weren’t expensive but they weren’t cheap either. However, with that being said I learned that I am very lucky to be able to have everything I have and im lucky to be blessed with the items I use on a day to day basis.
